Machu Picchu, known as the legendary Inca citadel, is located at 2,450 meters above sea level. This impressive archaeological sanctuary was introduced to the world by the American explorer Hiram Bingham in 1911. Today, it is considered the most important archaeological destination in Peru and one of the most visited tourist attractions in all of South America.
Our private guide service in Machu Picchu begins with pickup from your hotel in the morning. Then we will head to the Poroy train station in Cusco or to the Ollantaytambo station, depending on current availability. From there, we will begin an approximately three-hour train journey to the majestic Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, internationally recognized as “The Lost City of the Incas.” Upon arriving in the town of Aguas Calientes at 2,000 meters above sea level, we will board the bus that takes an approximately 30-minute ride along a winding road until reaching the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. The experience includes a private guided tour through the most important sectors of the archaeological complex, including the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Clock, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, and the ancient burial areas. After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore the citadel at your own pace and enjoy the views of the Andean surroundings. Later, we will descend again to Aguas Calientes, where you may enjoy lunch peacefully and, if you wish, visit the town’s famous hot springs. In the afternoon, we will take the return train to Cusco, usually around 2:26 p.m. or 6:03 p.m., depending on ticket availability. Arrival in the city is expected approximately at 6:15 p.m. or 9:30 p.m. Train schedules may vary according to daily railway operations.
