Day 1:Full-Day Excursion to the Chonta Condor Viewpoint

Your adventure begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. From there, you will embark on a pleasant journey through the Sacred Valley, enjoying panoramic views of fertile valleys, towering mountains, and stunning Andean scenery.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., you will visit the important archaeological site of Killarumiyoc, an Inca complex known for its unique crescent-shaped stone carving, traditionally associated with the representation of the moon. During the visit, your guide will share insights into its cultural and astronomical significance, providing a valuable introduction to the region’s historical heritage.

On the way to Chonta, there is an opportunity to make an optional stop at Tarawasi, another remarkable Inca archaeological site renowned for the precision and quality of its stonework. This visit further enriches the experience by showcasing the extraordinary engineering achievements of the Inca civilization.

After approximately three hours of travel, you will arrive at the charming village of Chonta, the starting point for the next stage of the excursion. From there, you will begin a moderate hike to the viewpoint, following trails surrounded by breathtaking landscapes of valleys, mountains, and deep canyons. The hike takes approximately one hour each way and offers excellent opportunities to observe the region’s Andean flora and fauna.

Upon reaching the Condor Viewpoint, you will have the opportunity to admire the majestic Andean condors soaring effortlessly on the mountain air currents. These iconic birds, with wingspans reaching up to three meters, are among the most important symbols of the Andean worldview. Your guide will explain various aspects of their behavior, habitat, and cultural significance.

After the condor-watching experience, we will descend back to the village of Chonta, where we will enjoy a traditional Peruvian lunch at a local restaurant. It is the perfect opportunity to savor authentic regional flavors while sharing the experiences of the day.

In the afternoon, we will begin the return journey to Cusco. Depending on the available time and the interests of the group, an additional visit to Andean communities or archaeological sites along the route may be possible. Arrival in the city is scheduled for the evening, bringing to an end a day filled with nature, history, culture, and unforgettable landscapes.
