Discover the impressive multicolored ridges of Pallay Punchu Mountain, a destination revealed during the COVID-19 quarantine. Considered the third rainbow mountain in Cusco after Vinicunca and Palccoyo, this location still preserves its untouched essence despite its growing popularity on social media. Its sharp formations and vibrant colors create a unique and extraordinary landscape, ideal for travelers looking for an authentic experience beyond the traditional routes.
To reach this remarkable destination, you will travel south of Cusco to a remote area where you will be surrounded only by nature. From there, you will enjoy spectacular views with Langui Lagoon as the perfect backdrop. Be amazed by the mountain’s perfectly defined lines, painted in shades of cyan, brown, and magenta. In addition, you will learn about Andean traditions and discover the geology of the region while exploring landscapes surrounded by reddish mountains and vast grasslands.
Enjoy this unforgettable adventure and don’t forget to bring your Andean poncho to capture incredible photos.
The adventure begins around 4:00 a.m., when we will pick you up from your hotel to start the journey. We will travel for approximately one and a half hours to Cusipata, where you will enjoy an energizing breakfast. Afterward, we will continue by road toward Marangani.
Upon arrival, we will begin a challenging uphill hike that takes about one hour. The trail crosses wide grasslands and impressive reddish terrain, accompanied by the typical wildlife of the area, such as alpacas, llamas, and vicuñas. Once at Pallay Punchu, whose name in Quechua means “woven poncho,” you will be able to explore its sharp rocky formations and feel as if you are walking on another planet.
The mountain stands out for its natural lines perfectly shaped over millions of years. Along the route, you will appreciate a variety of colors including red, brown, yellow, green, magenta, and ocher, among others. While admiring this remarkable combination of shades, you will also have the opportunity to approach the natural viewpoints to contemplate the spectacular Langui Lagoon and its extensive blue waters stretching more than 15 km.
During the excursion, you will reach an altitude of 4,700 m / 15,419 ft, so we recommend being properly acclimatized to avoid altitude-related discomfort. Later, we will return along the same trail to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch in Cusipata. Finally, we will head back to Cusco to conclude this amazing experience.
