Day 1:ATV Excursion to Maras and Huaypo Lake
Your day begins with hotel pickup in Cusco during the morning. After a drive of approximately 50 minutes, you will arrive in Cruzpata, where your ATV adventure begins. Before setting off, your guide will provide a detailed briefing about the activities planned for the day.
Once in Cruzpata, you will take part in a 15-minute safety and training session, designed to help you become familiar with operating the vehicle. A professional instructor will guide you through the process, ensuring that you feel comfortable and prepared before starting the route.
The first part of the journey takes you to the beautiful Huaypo Lake, considered one of the area’s best-preserved natural treasures. Its crystal-clear waters, peaceful atmosphere, and impressive views make it the perfect place to relax, take photographs, and enjoy the Andean landscape.
The adventure then continues along various rural trails, surrounded by traditional Andean communities and vast agricultural fields. The route proceeds toward the renowned Maras Salt Mines, an extraordinary network of salt terraces that have been used since ancient times.
For safety reasons, ATVs are not permitted to enter the salt mines directly. Therefore, to complete this section of the tour, you will transfer to an authorized vehicle that will take you to the site.
Upon arrival at the Maras Salt Mines, you will have the opportunity to walk among the terraces and learn about their fascinating history, as well as the traditional methods used for salt extraction. You will also enjoy spectacular panoramic views with the snow-capped Verónica and Chicón mountains dominating the landscape in the background.
After exploring this remarkable attraction, you will begin the return journey to Cruzpata, once again enjoying the extraordinary scenery of the region. From there, you will board the transportation back to Cusco, where the tour concludes on Plateros Street, located in the historic city center.
