The hike lasts approximately 5 hours and follows a trail that leads to several lakes, including Azulcocha, Otorongo, Pucacocha, Alqacocha, and Q’omercocha.
During the journey, you will have the opportunity to admire the impressive snow-covered mountains in the area, including Ausangate, Mariposa, Jampa, Pucapunta, Caracol, Tinke, and the entire Qayangate mountain range.

Full-Day 7 Ausangate Lakes Tour Details
Day 1Cusco – Pacchanta – Lakes Ausangate – Cusco
This is a full-day hiking experience in the Ausangate region of Peru. The adventure begins at 4:00 a.m., when we will pick you up from your hotel and travel for approximately 3 hours to Pacchanta, passing through the village of Tinke along the way.
Pacchanta is located at 4,200 meters above sea level, so temperatures are usually colder than in Cusco. Upon arrival, our trekking chef will prepare a hot breakfast while all safety protocols are followed to guarantee everyone’s well-being.
After breakfast and a short break, we will begin the hike toward the lakes of the Ausangate region.
The hike takes around 5 hours and follows scenic trails where you will visit lakes such as Azulcocha, Otorongo, Pucacocha, Alqacocha, and Q’omercocha.
In addition to the lakes, you will enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding snowcapped mountains, including Ausangate (6,834 m), Mariposa (5,842 m), Jampa (5,500 m), Pucapunta (5,740 m), Caracol (5,625 m), Tinke (5,300 m), and the entire Qayangate mountain range.
Since this area is located in the Andes, weather conditions can change quickly. You may experience cold temperatures as well as strong sunlight during the same day. For this reason, we recommend bringing a hat or cap and using quality sunscreen to avoid sunburn and headaches caused by high-altitude exposure.
Along the trail, you will also have the chance to observe local wildlife and vegetation, including different bird species, vicuñas, and llamas.
The scenery is truly breathtaking, and you will have time to visit each of the lakes before returning along the same trail. The hike back to Pacchanta is easier and faster. Once you arrive at the trailhead, your trekking chef will have a hot lunch prepared so you can recover your energy.
Pacchanta is also famous for its natural hot springs, perfect for relaxing and soothing tired muscles after the hike. The warm thermal waters provide the perfect ending to this unforgettable adventure.
You will have time to enjoy the hot springs before lunch and later relax while enjoying a freshly prepared meal made especially for you.
After lunch, we will board our transportation back to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel so you can enjoy a well-deserved rest.
